Ocean Waves App Reviews

4 Customer Reviews:

Theres nothing quite like the sound of the ocean surf, and this app does an amazing job of taking you there. Ive used the earlier version for several years, and this ones better since theres no detectable repetition. Whether you use it to simply relax or (as I often do) for background white noise while reading - I highly recommend it. Simple and sublime, like the sound of the surf.

I bought version 1.0 of this app long ago and was a little annoyed at the thought of spending $1.99 to buy it again. Then I stopped to think about the hundreds of hours of work I have accomplished while gentle, realistic, crashing ocean waves rolled away in the background and hit the “Buy” button. If you enjoy the relaxing sound of ocean waves, stop here. Ocean Waves is the (genius) polar opposite of my second favorite Mac relaxation app, Sonic Mood. Instead of having a hundred possible settings, it has one good one: “Start Ocean Waves.” Together with the awesome option of exporting a core audio format file to take your waves with you wherever you go, you’ll need nothing else. Roll on, Katsura.

I used this app extensively in college to help keep external noise at bay in the day (roommates) and to help me sleep at night (loud city). It’s the best “white noise” generator I’ve used on the Mac in many years. It combines pink noise and brownian noise (aka brown noise) for a very nice balance of random noise. Most apps will only let you listen to one at a time and usually include true white noise which is very high pitched and annoying. Both pink and brown noise sound lower and are more soothing to listen to. To help keep external noise from distracting you I suggest turning off the “Amplitude Generator” which will keep the noise level consistent. When you want to relax or feel like you’re on the beach, turn the “Amplitude Generator” back on and feel the waves wash over you :) It would be great if you could enable and disable this without having to go into the application’s preferences, but it’s not awful.

Works well with macOs Big Sur

I love this app because you can easily customize the amount of bass sound. Be sure to go to Menu > Preferences. Enable Boos Sound Level and adjust the sound with the Light Wave and Heavy Wave sliders. I personally disable the Amplitude Generator so that I have a constant volume in both left and right ears in my headphones. I find that increasing Heavy Wave significantly helps to block out nearby conversations. I use 75% Light and 100% Heavy.

This app does not work

THe application does not work reliably and often plays nothing at all. Have messed with this, and it produces no sounds whatsoever. The link for support is also bogus. STAY AWAY!
